Precision Build is a small team based in the Southern Highlands, focused on building homes that are made to last and feel good to live in.
Whether it’s a new build, a major renovation or something in between—what matters to our clients, matters to us.
No shortcuts. No confusion. Just good, honest building done properly.
Our story
Patty Byrne’s building career began long before his first job or apprenticeship. At five years old, he and his mates would raid the second-hand timber rack at the local mill—hauling off wonky bits of wood and salvaged offcuts to build cubby houses from scratch.

Patrick Byrne
Managing Director, Carpenter
Most of the time, they were working with “more curly timber than a packet of spiral pasta”—but that didn’t matter. They built for the joy of it. Each school holidays, the cubby would go up. And at the end, they’d pull it all down again—just to do it all over next time.
That hands-on spirit never left. What began with salvaged timber became decks, frames, full homes, and eventually a proper family business—run with the same care, curiosity and pride in the work.
For years, the team traded under the Smith & Sons banner. But as the crew grew and the jobs became more complex, it felt time to stand on their own name. That’s how Precision Build NSW came to be. Same team. Same steady reputation. A name that better reflects the way things are done.
These days, the projects are bigger. But the approach is the same: Plan carefully. Build properly. Treat people right.
And yes—Patty’s still happiest with his boots on and a pencil behind his ear.

Our clients
Who we work with
Our clients have typically outgrown their homes or ready for the next chapter of their life.
They’re people who’ve waited years to get their place just right. Some are doing it for the first time. Others are finally doing it properly.
What do they all have in common? They want someone who’ll do what they say they will—and do it well.

Patrick Byrne
Managing Director / Carpenter
Pat’s always been the guy who takes the lead. Whether it was captaining his footy team or putting his hand up for the tough jobs as an apprentice, he’s always chased more responsibility—not for the ego, but for the pride in doing it right.
Going out on his own was never about going solo. It was about building something better—from the way teams are treated to the way jobs are run. These days, Pat’s on site most days, leading from the front and making sure the work’s done to a standard he’d be proud to put his name on.

Jarrad
Carpenter
Born and raised in the Highlands, Jarrad’s spent more than a decade perfecting his craft — from furniture-making and timber machining to production management at The Woodage. He’s known for high-end finishes, fine detail and a simple rule: if it’s not right, it’s not done. Loyal, steady and generous with his time, he’s the backbone of the crew.
Mitch says: “Jarrad is loyal to the soil. Would give the shirt off his back.”

Nick
Carpenter
Nick swapped music studios for building sites — a bold move that’s paid off. After a stint in Sydney chasing a record deal, he returned to Bowral and built a new career from the ground up. With an eye for design and a love of accuracy, he brings creative polish to every job. When he’s not on site, he’s out camping, four-wheel-driving or cooking over a fire.
Ethan says: “Nick is always very supportive and helpful.”

Mitch
Carpenter
Mitch started out in landscaping before picking up the tools as a carpenter in 2020. He’s now knee-deep in his own split-level weatherboard renovation — the kind of back-to-bare project he loves most. A family man and weekend rugby leaguer, he’s known for his kind nature and sharp eye for detail.
Jarrad says: “Mitch is a good fun-loving bloke. Kind person. Great attention to detail.”

Ethan
Apprentice carpenter
Ethan once thought he’d be a mechanic, but carpentry stole his attention. Now in his third year, he’s all about precision work — the fiddly, problem-solving kind. Off the clock, he’s either kart racing at Marulan or fishing on the Hawkesbury. Always ready to help, always eager to learn.
Nick says: “Ethan is dedicated, hardworking, and enthusiastic.”
